AnyTone is the brand name of Qixiang Electron Science & Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese maker of two-way radios based in Quanzhou, Fujian province. Hams know it mainly for its DMR radios, especially the AT-D878UV handheld and the AT-D578UV mobile, which work on both DMR digital voice and analog FM. The company also builds analog amateur radios, commercial radios, 10-meter and CB radios, and radios that are sold under other companies' brand names.

History

Qixiang gives 1993 as its founding date, although business registration records list the current company's incorporation in 2003. It is a privately held limited company located in an industrial zone in Quanzhou's Luojiang District. Quanzhou and the surrounding area are home to several other two-way radio makers, including Baofeng, TYT and Wouxun.

The company describes itself as a developer and manufacturer of analog and digital two-way radios, mobile and marine radios, repeaters and push-to-talk-over-cellular (PoC) radios, which carry voice over a cellular data network rather than directly from radio to radio. AnyTone is its own brand, and European importers note that the company is also the original manufacturer of a number of radios sold under private labels.

Its earlier amateur products included analog dual-band mobiles such as the AT-5888UV of 2014 and the AT-778UV of 2017. The AT-D868UV DMR handheld also appeared in 2017 and was followed by a series of DMR handhelds and mobiles.

Amateur radio products

AnyTone's best-known amateur radios are dual-band 2-meter and 70-centimeter DMR transceivers that also operate on analog FM, so a single radio can use both digital and conventional repeaters.

  • AT-D868UV (2017) – A dual-band DMR and FM handheld.
  • AT-D878UV (2018) – A dual-band DMR and FM handheld. The later Plus and II Plus versions include Bluetooth, and the AT-D878UVII Plus, which supports APRS position reporting, was reviewed in QST.
  • AT-D578UV (2019) – A dual-band DMR and FM mobile radio, with later "Plus" versions.
  • AT-D168UV (2024) and AT-D890UV (2025) – Newer dual-band handhelds.

Like other DMR radios, AnyTone models are set up with a codeplug, a configuration file holding channels, talkgroups and contacts, built in the manufacturer's programming software on a computer. The company also makes analog FM handhelds, such as the AT-318UV, analog mobiles and 10-meter mobile radios.

In the hobby today

AnyTone's DMR radios reach the amateur DMR networks through local repeaters or through a personal hotspot, and they can be used on analog FM repeaters and simplex channels as well. The radios are sold through importers and dealers in North America, Europe and elsewhere, and the company says its products are exported to more than 65 countries.

Before editing the codeplug in a new or used AnyTone radio, read the existing one out of the radio and save a copy. If an edit goes wrong, writing the saved copy back is the quickest way to recover.
